Upselling

As I was saying in my last post, life post-stroke gets messy.

I had someone come out to replace the wall-mounted garage door opener last week.  I let him upsell me, he seemed like a nice kid.  So, he was replacing all the wheels on the door except for two, because two were long-stemmed. (?).  He charged me $105 for the $32 remote he installed.

The point I’m trying to make is that in real-time my brain is not processing this information, I’m asking questions, but still not understanding – I’m certain the questions were not right, meaning I’d ask a question, but it didn’t get to the heart of the matter.

So, I call the company that afternoon, they say customer service will call me. They don’t.  So, I write a review on Yelp.  And wait to see if I get a response, I do.  I reach out to discuss the issues.  They can’t find my name or number; what kind of operation did I call, they didn’t have anything.  So, I forward them the invoice.  Shortly after that, I get a call.  It was the wrong company.

Of course, I removed the review and moved it to the company I was referring to.  I call them again because it was obvious to me, they don’t keep up with Yelp, based on the “Do you own this business?” question.

The young man comes back out and explains things again. This time I get it, it was simple. But on the initial visit, not all cylinders were firing and I just could not get it.

It can be embarrassing, the post-stroke life.
